On Monday, Feb. 28, diners can do their waistlines and wallets a favor by considering one of the $5 entrée specials offered at lunch and dinner time by some 22 Suffolk County restaurants.

All are part of the Just Ask Us restaurant program run by John T. Mather Hospital, Port Jefferson, in which a dietician helps owners and chefs develop smaller portion options to include in the menu mix.

“Portion control is a simple way to help manage weight gain and helps reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and some forms of cancer,” said Gemma Saylor in a media release. She’s a registered dietitian and director of the program, which is funded by the New York State Dept of Heath.

The $5 offer is good for an entrée only. You’re on your own with beverages, taxes, tips.
