The state Department of Labor and its Suffolk County counterpart will hire temporary workers to help in the superstorm Sandy recovery effort.

The program plans to hire unemployed workers, including those who lost their jobs temporarily or permanently because of the storm.

The work will consist of removing debris and clearing roadways, among other projects. The jobs pay $14.89 an hour and will last for up to 12 weeks at 35 hours a week.
