Supermarket union tentative deal
Unionized supermarket workers will vote July 8 on a tentative agreement that, if ratified, could avert a strike, the union said on its Facebook page.
United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1500 and representatives for Pathmark, Stop and Shop and King Kullen Supermarkets reached a tentative agreement Monday, the union said.
The agreement would avert strikes at any of the three supermarket chains, the union said. Workers can vote on the proposed contract at nine locations in the metro New York City area.
Union members on June 23 gave their leaders the power to call a strike as the expiration of their contract neared on Saturday. Union and store officials have been negotiating since May.
