Surprise: Long Island wages not keeping pace with inflation

Wages on Long Island have risen since 2010, but haven't kept pace with inflation, according to a government report.
The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics said hourly wages averaged $25.63 in May 2013 across all occupations in Nassau and Suffolk counties, an increase of 4.8 percent from the same month three years earlier.
However, the consumer price index for the 31-county region that includes Long Island climbed 6.3 percent from May 2010 to May 2013.
The highest paid jobs on Long Island were in management, averaging $64.23 per hour in May 2013. The lowest pay, $11.83 per hour, was in food preparation and other service sector jobs, the bureau said.
