A Timberland shoe company outlet store in Deer Park has met top environmental conservation standards.

The Tanger Outlets shop was awarded LEED -- Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design -- Silver status by the not-for-profit U.S. Green Building Council.

The award was for Timberland’s shop interior.

The company’s award shows it “continues its commitment to sustainability and reducing emissions through the use of more recycled materials and renewable energy sources,” Timberland said.

Among the factors in getting the award:
* Using reclaimed lumber
* Salvaging construction waste
* Low VOC (volatile organic compound) building materials
* Water conservation through low-flow devices
* Energy efficient fixtures and lighting
