Target to open new Huntington store in October
A new Target store will open in Huntington in October, the company said Friday.
The new store will be located near the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and New York Avenue, the retailer said. A Newsday report last August said that an 18-acre lot at 124 Jericho Tnpk. -- the site where a Lowe's was to be built before the home improvement store abandoned plans -- was contracted to be sold.
The Town of Huntington also said last August that Target had submitted an application to develop the former Lowe's lot.
Construction for the new store has not started yet, a spokeswoman for Target said Friday.
The new, 150,000-square-foot store will be the 13th Target store on Long Island. Target plans on hiring 250 new employees for the new store, and job fairs for the positions will be held in the two-months leading up to the grand opening.
