(AP) — TD Bank said Thursday it plans to open its first Rhode Island branch later this year in Barrington.

TD Bank has about 1,000 branches in 12 states in New England, the Mid-Atlantic, Florida and the District of Columbia. The company is a unit of Toronto-based TD Bank Financial Group.

Robert A. Kolb will serve as market president in Rhode Island and oversee expansion in the state, the company said. He's now market president for TD Bank's Central and Western Massachusetts markets.

Louise J. Trottier will manage retail sales and service. She currently oversees TD Bank's retail banking operations in Massachusetts.
