School’s in session again, and depending on your children’s grade level, school schedule, temperament, activities and enrollment in after-school programs, keeping track of their daily routines and responsibilities can be overwhelming. These free back-to-school apps can help.
MYHOMEWORK The app lets students put their assignments, class schedules and events into a calendar and then sync that information across all kinds of platforms, whether it’s on an iPhone, Android device, desktop PC or even an Amazon Kindle. For $4.99 a year, students can get an ad-free version that allows the use of different themes across the app and attaching files to schedules. (Compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, requires iOS 8.0 or later; Android compatibility varies with device)
ARTKIVE You’ve probably redecorated your refrigerator with tons of crayon creations. Artkive lets you take pictures of your children’s artwork and then tags the photos so you know which child did which picture, and uploads them in chronological order to Artkive’s cloud-based storage. You can pay to order a book with all the necessary artwork that could, for example, chronicle a child’s school year. (Free; compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, requires iOS 8.0 or later; Android 5.0 and up)
CLARK According to the company’s founder, the app was named for Clark Kent, “who looked like a nerd on the outside, but was a superhero on the inside.” Clark helps streamline and track a student’s tutoring process, provides session reports and lets you know to celebrate when students reach a goal. (Free; compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, requires iOS 10.0 or later)
