Google has taken its Street View cameras inside some of the world's most famous museums, giving users the chance to take 360-degree tours of 17 world-renowned art institutions.
Google’s Art Project, in partnership with the museums, lets people view 1,061 high-resolution images of famous artwork within the walls of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and Museum of Modern Art, the Freer Gallery of Art at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., London's National Gallery, Madrid’s Museo Reina Sofia and many more.
Each museum will also feature one artwork in 7 billion pixels -- about 1,000 times more detailed than the average digital camera. Google says that’s clear enough to see individual brushstrokes and near-hidden elements within the painting.
