Google logo features interactive guitar
Some hoping to use Google as a search engine Thursday may not have made it past the home page -- if they were too distracted by the interactive guitar replacing the traditional Google logo.
The logo allowed users to strum their own tune and record a 30-second jingle to share with friends. It was designed to honor musician Les Paul, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee famous for his development of the electric guitar. Paul, who died in 2009, would have been 96 years old Thursday.
Since its release Wednesday night, the doodle has become wildly popular -- terms like #googledoodle and #lespaul were trending on Twitter, with users tweeting keyboard strokes to play various songs on the doodle and others declaring the interactive feature the "best ever."
Google designer Alexander Chen, who came up with the idea, wrote in a blog post that he hoped users would be able to experience what it was like for him to learn songs and experiment on the electric guitar.
Google did not say how many people recorded songs using the logo.
