Google: Users can call phones through Gmail

Google announced that their popular free email service, Gmail, will now include a feature that allows users to make calls from their personal computers to telephones (landlines/cellphones) anywhere in the world.
Calls in the U.S. and Canada will be free, at least through end of the year. International calls made through Gmail will cost as little as 2 cents to many countries. Click here for all international rates.
People also will be able to receive calls on their PC if they obtain a phone number from Google or already have one.
The service is being rolled out within the next couple of days. Users will be able to being using Google's VOIP once “Call Phones” shows up in their chat list.
This puts Skype directly on Google's crosshairs. The traditional VOIP giant charges 1.2 cents to 2.1 cents per minute for pc-to-phone U.S. calls.
