Some people never explore the settings of their iPad. If you do, you'll discover your tablet offers much more than meets the eye at first glance, including the ability to add multiple keyboards to your device.

1. Tap the Settings icon (the one that looks like gears) on the home screen. Next, tap General, then Keyboards, then Add New Keyboard. A list of international language keyboards appears, as well as Emoji, which is a keyboard of smiley faces and other symbols you can add to text.

2. Tap any language to select its keyboard. You can customize its layout by going to your list of keyboards and selecting it. To use your alternate keyboard, call up the default keyboard and tap the international key (the one that looks like a globe) until the keyboard you want appears.

3. To remove a keyboard from your list, tap the Settings icon on your home screen, then General, then International, then Keyboards. Tap the Edit button on the top right of the screen, then tap the red minus sign next to the keyboard you want to delete, then tap the Delete button.
