iPhone ringtone and text alert sounds: How to customize them

Are there some people whose calls or texts you’ll take no matter what’s going on? Know when they’re calling or texting without even looking at your iPhone by customizing their ringtone and text alert sounds. Here’s how.

1. Press the Contacts icon on your iPhone and select the person whose ringtone you want to customize. On the top right of the contact’s page, press Edit. Scroll down until you see Ringtone. It will say “Default,” the from-the-factory sound your phone makes for all callers.

2. Press Ringtone. A list of ringtone choices will appear. Press on any one to hear how it sounds. When you find the ringtone you want to associate with that contact, go to the top right and press Done.

3. In the same way, you can choose a specific alert tone (or ringtone, if you prefer) to associate with texts arriving from a contact. You also can customize vibration patterns for contacts’ phone calls and texts.
