As Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus hit stores on Friday, Long Islanders flocked to the company's retail stores in Nassau and Suffolk counties with hopes to score the new smartphones before they run out.

The release comes two days after Apple released its iOS 8 operating system, which adds new features such as health monitoring, custom keyboards and audio chatting.

The iPhone 6 also adds Apple Pay, which allows owners to use the device to pay for purchases at stores, instead of pulling out a credit card. Meanwhile, the iPhone 6 Plus represents Apple's first 5.5-inch screen, making it the largest iPhone to date.
