Those rockin' sneakers have a get-up-and-move app

Yo, you -- couch potato with workout guilt! Imagine getting yourself on the move with a personal coach with you while you walk, run or hike. Sketchers, the California shoemaker, thinks you'd welcome one and has launched a free application for the iPhone to do just that.

Available at the iTunes App Store in the health-care and fitness category, the Shape-Up N' Go app is designed to track, map and share Shape-Up shoe wearers' walking, running and hiking activities. You know, those sneakers that rock as you walk, run or hike.

Shape-Up N' Go turns Shape-ups into an interactive training experience by displaying and voicing workout times, distances, estimated calories burned, pace, speed and elevation; tracking and mapping routes; synchronizing with training logs; and sharing workouts with friends and family on Twitter and Facebook. A tad annoying for a workout coach, but it's free, so who can grouse?

Shape-Up N' Go is designed to use MapMyWALK's intuitive data output and navigation features with iPhone's GPS technology. The app is also being developed for the Android and BlackBerry.

Launched by the Skechers Fitness Group, the Shape-up shoes are technical walking shoes designed to tone muscles, promote weight loss, and improve posture.
