Turning up the power in hunt for a job
Looking for a job? There are many websites you can check, including monster.com and careerbuilder.com, but indeed.com, around since 2004, claims it is the No. 1 job site in the world with more than 1 billion searches a month in more than 50 countries and 26 languages.
To be a great job search engine, you need to be a great aggregator, and indeed.com accomplishes that by providing results from thousands of websites, from company career pages and job boards to associations and newspapers.
On the home page, begin your free search by filling in a job title, keyword or company in the What box, as well as the city, state or ZIP code in the Where box. Refine your results by specifying the acceptable distance from your designated location and an approximate salary. Once you have fine-tuned your search, you can be alerted via email to any new postings that fit your specs.
Job seekers also can let prospective employers find them by uploading their resumes to indeed.com, where they'll be placed on a unique resume URL. Other features include links for the average wage for the job and location you're seeking, a trends graph showing the decline or increase in demand for your job, and a forum.
