You're typing a message on Twitter and see your character limit dwindling. Before you know it you've sent two messages and haven't even reached the end of your story.

Twitter understands your frustration. So, the social media site has decided to do away with the character restriction.

Twitter announced that they are removing the 140-character limit in direct messages on their developer forum Thursday.

What does this mean for tweets? Nothing. Twitter staff says they have no plans to change the limit on public tweets.

Your direct messages will break free from their 140-character limit in July. Until then, Twitter recommends users check their message settings so they will be ready to accommodate the longer text.
