Whether you are a DIYer or just prefer to go beyond the standard slap-some-paper-and-a-bow-on-it, many websites provide gift-wrapping inspiration so the outside of your package will be as pleasing as what's found within. Here's a sampling:

Some sites provide only visual information, but Reader's Digest (bit.ly/ILDAh2) goes the whole nine yards, with a materials list and directions for each project, many of which include materials you'll likely have on hand.

If you're wrapping gifts for the kids, stop by iVillage (ivill.ag/18OwC7K), which has collected ideas from a number of blogs featuring adornments such as candy dots, wooden puzzle pieces and balloons.

Kandee Johnson's website (bit.ly/1jD4dnc) features video at the bottom of the page where she provides how-to demonstrations.

You'll find some simple and elegant designs at Country Living (bit.ly/18OyRa, including road map wrap for travel gifts and sheet music paper for musicians on your list.

Other sites with ideas we liked include: Southern Living (bit.ly/ILFT3F); BuzzFeed DIY (bit.ly/1aNMJMY); Hongkiat.com (bit.ly/IAGMMX); HGTV (bit.ly/18w71KS); A Subtle Revelry (bit.ly/1brHgio); Martha Stewart (martha.ms/1dgvSpe).
