Specialty contractor Jobin buying Hauppauge site for expansion

The Jobin Organization has finally secured a new home in Hauppauge after its purchase of another building there fell through last fall.

The Farmingdale-based specialty contractor will buy and renovate a 25,000-square-foot structure at 35 Gilpin Ave. in Hauppauge.

Executives said the $3.5 million project will allow the company to bring in house the production of wall panels that is now done by suppliers in other states and Canada.

Jobin expects to add 10 people to its workforce of 50 within two years, they said. Records show that employees earn on average $92,967 per year.

In 2012, the company employed 70 people and had hoped to hire 20 more by 2015.

Jobin specializes in roofing, glazing and metal wall panels. Customers include Resorts World Casino at Aqueduct Racetrack and The New York Botanical Garden.

Jobin had initially wanted to buy a larger building at 145 Oser Ave. in Hauppauge for $5.2 million, but the deal fell through, according to officials at the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency. That facility eventually was purchased by drugmaker Contract Pharmacal Corp. for its seventh operation on Long Island.

The change of locations reduced the size of Jobin's expansion project and, therefore, the value of the tax breaks it will receive from the IDA.

The family-owned business now will save $211,403 over 10 years compared with the earlier incentives of $546,876, according to IDA acting executive director Anthony J. Catapano. He also said that Jobin had considered leaving New York State for New Jersey or Connecticut.
