KEY EVENT:Credit check. Equifax, Experian and TransUnion are each required to provide consumers with one free credit report each year upon request. Experts say it's best to space the requests at four-month intervals, so get one Monday, Aug. 31 and Dec. 31. Annualcreditreport.com is the only site authorized by the government to supply these free reports.

MONDAY:Personal income and spending for March from the Commerce Department. Earnings: Plainview LED tool maker Veeco Instruments.

TUESDAY: Carmakers post motor vehicle sales and the Institute for Supply Management releases its manufacturing index, both for April. Earnings: Avon, CBS, Pfizer.

WEDNESDAY: More than 25 companies in the S&P 500 post earnings, including Comcast, MasterCard, Visa and New Hyde Park-based shopping center owner Kimco.

THURSDAY:Jobless claims for the week ended April 28 from the Labor Department. Earnings: Port Washington chemicals supplier Aceto, Bethpage media company Cablevision, Melville software maker FalconStor, Carle Place florist and gift seller 1-800-Flowers.com, Melville natural foods seller Hain Celestial.

FRIDAY: The week's most anticipated report: unemployment and jobs created for April from the Labor Department. Last month's disappointing data caused the worst two-day stock market sell-off since November. Earnings: Uniondale real estate lender Arbor Realty Trust.
