Key event. Housing market updates. S&P/Case-Shiller housing index for December (Tuesday) tracks 20 key markets, including the New York metropolitan area. Last month's report showed local housing prices are near a seven-year low after falling for three straight months. And pending home sales for January (Monday) from the National Association of Realtors gauges current demand for existing homes.
Monday. Earnings from Lowe's and Priceline.com.
Tuesday. Consumer confidence for February from The Conference Board and durable goods orders for January from the Commerce Department. Also, earnings from Bethpage-based media company and Newsday owner Cablevision Systems.
Wednesday. Deadline for business owners who use paper forms to file Copy A of 2011 W-2 statements with the Social Security Administration. Electronic filers have until March 31 to transmit forms. Also, revised fourth-quarter GDP from the Commerce Department and the Federal Reserve's January Beige Book, which updates economic activity around the nation. Earnings: Costco, Staples.
Thursday. Claims for unemployment benefits for the week ended Feb. 25 from the Labor Department and personal income for January from the Commerce Department. Also, car sales for February from automakers and the manufacturing index for February from the Institute for Supply Management.
Friday. Earnings from Uniondale-based real estate investment trust Arbor Realty.
