KEY EVENT: Federal Reserve Bank of New York president William Dudley, who is also vice chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve's monetary policy committee, delivers a lecture on the Long Island economy at Stony Brook University Monday after addressing local business leaders at a Long Island Association breakfast meeting in Melville.
MONDAY: The National Association of Home Builders posts its housing market index for February. Earnings: software provider Adobe Systems.
TUESDAY: Housing starts for February from the Commerce Department. Earnings: Tiffany & Co., business software maker Oracle, electronics manufacturer Jabil Circuit.
WEDNESDAY: With gasoline again around $4 a gallon, the U.S. petroleum supplies report for the week ended March 16 from the Energy Information Administration may indicate where prices are heading as spring arrives. Also, the National Association of Realtors releases existing home sales for February. Last month's report showed home sales in the Northeast have risen for three straight months. Earnings: General Mills.
THURSDAY: Claims for jobless benefits for the week ended March 17 from the Labor Department and leading economic indicators for February from The Conference Board. Earnings: Nike, FedEx, GameStop.
FRIDAY: February new home sales from the Commerce Department.
