The Week Ahead: March 23-27

KEY EVENT: Bounce back. After revised data showed Long Island job growth stagnated late last year, employers added 14,700 local jobs in January, nearly twice as many as the last three months of 2014 combined. Was this a one-month rebound? That question will be answered Thursday when the state Labor Department releases Long Island jobs created in February.

MONDAY: Existing home sales for February from the National Association of Realtors. Last month's report showed the price of a single-family home in the Northeast rose 3.4 percent compared to January 2014.

TUESDAY: Consumer prices for February from the U.S. Labor Department. The report, an update of the nation's most watched inflation gauge, has a breakout of prices in the 31 Northeast counties including Long Island. Also, new home sales in February from the Commerce Department and single-family home prices in January from the Federal Housing Finance Agency.

WEDNESDAY: Durable goods orders for February from the Commerce Department.

THURSDAY: Jobless benefits claims for the week ended March 21 from the U.S. Labor Department.

FRIDAY: The third and final estimate of fourth-quarter GDP from the Commerce Department. Also, consumer sentiment in March from the University of Michigan.
