KEY EVENT: Growing trend. In September, local employers added jobs for the 54th straight month, longest streak in 10 years. Did job growth continue as the fourth quarter began? The answer comes Thursday when the state Labor Department releases Long Island jobs data for October.
MONDAY: The Federal Reserve Bank of New York posts the November Empire State survey, its update on New York manufacturing. Earnings: Tyson Foods, apparel seller Urban Outfitters.
TUESDAY: Producer prices for October from the U.S. Labor Department and an update on the housing market from the National Association of Home Builders. Earnings: Home Depot.
WEDNESDAY: The Federal Reserve releases the meeting minutes from its conference last month when it decided to end its controversial bond-buying program. Also, the Commerce Department posts October housing starts. Earnings: Lowe's, Staples, Target.
THURSDAY: Two closely watched reports from the U.S. Labor Department: consumer prices in October and jobless benefits claims for the week ended Nov. 15. Also, the National Association of Realtors releases existing home sales for October. Earnings: Best Buy, Gap, Intuit, Ross Stores.
FRIDAY: Earnings from Foot Locker and sporting goods retailer Hibbett Sports.
