A main -- and potentially dreaded -- attraction at today’s 140 Characters Conference Long Island is an app used to time the speakers, who get just five minutes each to share their stories of how their lives and work have been changed by the real-time Internet -- meaning sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

The main “speaker wrangler” is Andrea Cannavina, known on Twitter as @LegalTypist, one of the event’s planners. She's also a Toastmasters member and owner of a virtual assistant business in Hicksville. It’s her job to flash the yellow notebook and get speakers to wrap it up.

Her advice to speakers: “Don’t make me scowl!”
