Trucking activity nationwide fell 1.9 percent in June, according to an economic index by the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Still, June’s number in the Ceridian-UCLA Pulse of Commerce Index was better than the previous quarter and a year ago. The index is based on real-time trucking fuel consumption data. The dip follows a gain in May of 3.1 percent.

In the Middle Atlantic region, which includes Long Island, the rest of New York, and New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the index was 0.5 percent lower than it was in May.

And this area was the only region that had a decline in May while the rest of the country was booming, the report said.

June’s decline is widespread, although New England has an increase.

Here is the full report.
