The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Carpenters Union will begin taking applications Aug. 31 for five carpenter apprenticeships, officials said.

Applications can be obtained at the Carpenters Training Center, 270 Motor Pkwy., Department B, in Hauppauge, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, excluding holidays, until Aug. 30, 2019.

Applications must be picked up and submitted in person. Applicants must bring a valid driver's license or other state-issued ID card and a high school diploma or its equivalent. They also should have a Social Security card.

Applicants must be 18 or older and live on Long Island, but may not be Hempstead Town residents living south of the Southern State Parkway because that area is represented by a different division of the union. They also must be physically able to do the work, have reliable transportation, take math and drug tests, attend training sessions and join the union.

More information is available by calling 631-952-9555.
