Verint Systems sales rise on higher sales of surveillance programs

Verint Systems Inc., Long Island's largest software maker, said Wednesday its second-quarter revenue rose on higher sales of surveillance programs to governments and law enforcement agencies.

The Melville company, whose software instantaneously analyzes large amounts of data, said sales rose to $295.9 million during the three months that ended in July, up 7 percent from the same period last year.

"We are pleased with our second quarter revenue growth and will continue to innovate and invest in long-term growth initiatives, expanding our portfolio of actionable intelligence solutions," Verint chief executive Dan Bodner said in a statement.

Despite the increase in sales, Verint reported an $11.2 million net loss for the quarter, or 18 cents per share, as the company continued to absorb expenses from its $514 million acquisition last year of KANA Software Inc. of Sunnyvale, California.

The company's sales of programs to monitor telephone calls, emails and other communications rose 22 percent, to $106.7 million. Revenue from software to analyze video rose 2 percent, $29.6 million. And Verint's largest unit, which sells programs for corporations to monitor customer service calls, emails and online chats, slipped less than 1 percent, to $159.6 million.

Verint's second-quarter sales beat analysts' expectations. But the company, which released its earnings report after the close of regular trading on Wall Street, released a lower-than-anticipated 2015 sales forecast, predicting revenue of between $1.18 billion and $1.23 billion. The company's stock fell 6 percent in early after-hours trading to $48.42.
