Verizon donates to Island Harvest
Verizon gave $6,000 today to Island Harvest, a sum raised through a promotional program called Velocity.
Under the Verizon Velocity program, the company donated up to $65 for each qualifying order from Long Islanders who ordered Verizon products and services from Nov. 1 through the end of the year.
The donation took place at Island Harvest’s year-end celebration at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale in recognition of the organization having met its 2010 goal of collecting 8 million pounds of food.

In addition to the donation of money, Verizon and its Long Island employees collected more than 7,000 pounds of food – an average of about 800 pounds per week – at a variety of company-sponsored events across the Island.
