Verizon Wireless 4G network expands

Web surfing just got a little faster at Long Island’s beaches.

Verizon announced this week that it was expanding its wireless 4G network on Long Island, making the high-speed service available for the first time in Nassau County, the Huntington area, the South Shore and eastern Suffolk County. That means the company's customers will spend less time waiting for their music, videos, email and other apps to download on their smartphones.

Previously, the service was only available in limited areas here. It is still not available in central Suffolk County. Pat Devlin, president of Verizon Wireless in the New York Metro Region, said the company planned to continue expanding.

“We will continue to aggressively roll out our 4G LTE network throughout the region in 2012 and beyond,” Devlin said.
