Sales for Ronkonkoma-based NBTY Inc. increased during the third quarter, the company reported Thursday.
The maker, distributor and retailer of vitamins and nutritional supplements said its sales for the quarter ending June 30 climbed to $802.2 million, increasing about 2.6 percent from the $782.3 million in revenue reported in the same period last year.
The company’s earnings also rose to $51.3 million, a 24 percent gain from the $41.2 million income reported in the prior year period.
NBTY said net sales for its wholesale segment rose 1.9 percent from the same period last year. Net sales for its European retail segment also jumped 8.6 percent because of new stores opened or acquired and successful promotional activity, the company said.
NBTY is privately owned by the Carlyle Group, a Washington, D.C.-based investment fund. Because the company's debt is publicly traded, it discloses its financial results.
