American Water Works Co., which supplies water to much of Nassau County, will flush its pipes during the next 10 days for customers in Lakeview, Lynbrook, Malverne and West Hempstead.

Water pressure may drop and the flow might be discolored, the New Jersey-based company said. The  flushing will continue through April 15.

The discoloration is caused by “harmless mineral deposits and sediment that may have built up over  time inside the pipes,” the New Jersey-based company said.

Just let the water run until it’s clear, American Water advised in a news release.

The company may also flush fire hydrants in the four communities.
