This week sees another achievement for Nia Froome, the high school senior from North Valley Stream whose business plan for a vegan bakery has won a national award — and a visit to see President Barack Obama at the White House.
Her business is Mamma Nia’s Vegan Bakery. Froome's most recent honor is a recognition on TheGrio.com website’s list of “100 History Makers in the Making."
TheGrio says, of Froome: "The fledgling baker is looking forward to expanding her line of delicacies — and to grow her online delivery client base nationally.
"Beyond her work in the kitchen, the teenager is looking forward to making the grade in college next year,” TheGrio says.
Froome's name on the list appears alongside those of Oprah Winfrey and of Ursula Burns, the Xerox Corp. chief executive.
Froome's baked goods contain no butter, eggs or milk. Her idea to go into business was motivated by her mom's battle with breast cancer.
