Wis. Senate passes bill to keep contracts in US

(AP) — The state Senate has passed a bill that would require most Wisconsin state government contract work to be performed in the United States.

The requirement wouldn't apply if the services couldn't be obtained within the United States, or if they're paid for with federal money, money from University of Wisconsin System gifts or grants.

The bill is designed to prevent companies from shipping jobs overseas.

The measure cleared the Assembly last year. It now goes to Gov. Jim Doyle, who can sign it into law or veto it.

Doyle spokesman Adam Collins didn't immediately return messages.
