Woodbury shopping site to expand

The Woodbury-based discount-shopping website SocialSteals.com says it's going national, and enthusiastically predicts its own success.

First Woodbury - then Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and New York City.

"Having reached thousands of subscribers on Long Island alone, SocialSteals seeks to reach thousands of consumers nationwide, to deliver the best deals ranging from 50-85% off," the company says in a news release this week.

"With its innovative approach using social networking, promotional events, as well as daily e-mails and newsletters, SocialSteals will continue to expand at a rapid pace."

The company said it launched in June. It doesn't name its chief executive; instead it refers to "The Social Bandit, CEO of SocialSteals."

Its strategy is to get consumers to sign up for daily emails offering discounts to restaurants, bars, spas and activities.

According to today's offering at SocialSteals.com, this is the discount for Wednesday: "Today's STEAL: Enjoy a 5-star 5-course social dinner by the Private Chef NYC for $99 ($160 value)!"
