New York State on Thursday will hold the second of three workshops on Long Island for businesses, developers, governments and not-for-profit groups wanting to compete for a portion of $760 million in state aid this year.

The workshops, organized by the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council, will focus on using the Consolidated Funding Application. The deadline for applying to the council for money is Aug. 12 at 4 p.m.

The workshop is from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Hofstra University's David S. Mack Student Center in Hempstead.

The final workshop is slated for July 23 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Adelphi University.

The local council was a big winner in the 2011 statewide competition and a runner-up last year. It has received $161.3 million in development aid for 152 projects so far in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Winners of this year's contest will likely be announced in the fall by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.
