Yan Baczkowski said Monday he had resigned as president of the Long Island Convention & Visitors Bureau and Sports Commission after less than eight months on the job for what he termed personal reasons.

The former Colorado tourism official was named in late August to replace Moke McGowan, who retired after 10 years on the job.

Baczkowski had been director of tourism for Snowmass Village, Colorado, near Aspen, according to his LinkedIn profile. He resigned from that post in February of last year after seven months on the job, according to a Colorado newspaper article.

He said in a telephone interview Monday evening that he resigned on Friday, effective in 30 days. He said it was a "mutual decision" by him and the group's board of directors, adding "It was just for personal reasons that it was time for me to move on."

Board members couldn't immediately be reached Monday night.
