 A. Yes, the 2012 Volkswagen Passat TDI is on sale and should be available at a dealer near you. We found more than 50 Passat TDIs at dealers within 250 miles of Chicago. That's not a whole bunch, so the TDI may in fact be scarce. 
 You need to check with your dealer as to the status of the car you ordered. The dealer should be able to tell you if it has been built at Volkswagen's new plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., or when it will be, and give you at least a ballpark arrival date. Once a factory order is placed for a vehicle, the dealer should be able to track where it is in the pipeline. 
 If there appears to be a snag with the car you ordered, perhaps your dealer could arrange to obtain a Passat TDI to your liking from another dealer. If your dealer proves uncooperative, take your beef to VW's customer service department at 800-822-8987.
