Patricia Wright has been elected to the American Philosophical Society. The Miller Place resident is a professor of biological anthropology at Stony Brook University. She is also founder and executive director of Centre ValBio, a research station on the edge of Madagascar's Ranomafana National Park that uses hands-on science to help sustain the resources and people of Madagascar; and founder and director of the Institute for the Conservation of Tropical Environments at Stony Brook University, created to encourage and promote scientific research, training, and conservation in the tropics, with a particular focus on Madagascar.
