 Barry Garfield has been elected to the board of the <a href="/topics/Long_Island%2C_NY">Long Island</a> Association. He also was recently appointed president of DFK International/USA, the American arm of a worldwide association of accounting firms. Garfield is a partner at Holtz Rubenstein Reminick, a <a href="/topics/Melville%2C_NY">Melville</a> accounting firm, and lives in <a href="/topics/Merrick%2C_NY">Merrick</a>. 
 HEALTH CARE 
 Karen Lange of <a href="/topics/Setauket%2C_NY">Setauket</a> has been promoted to director of medical-surgical nursing at <a href="/topics/Good_Samaritan_Hospital">Good Samaritan Hospital</a> Medical Center in <a href="/topics/West_Islip%2C_NY">West Islip</a>. She was most recently nurse manager of two medical-surgical telemetry units and started at the hospital in 1974 as a licensed practical nurse. 
 Carolann Maroney was appointed director of human resources at <a href="/topics/Good_Samaritan_Hospital">Good Samaritan Hospital</a> Medical Center. She will oversee daily human resources operations including employee relations, recruitment and retention, and compensation and benefits. Maroney was the human resources manager at St. Charles Hospital in <a href="/topics/Port_Jefferson%2C_NY">Port Jefferson</a> and lives in <a href="/topics/Sound_Beach%2C_NY">Sound Beach</a>.
