$1.95M Colonial once part of golf course

One might have the urge to reach for their golf clubs during a visit to this circa-1881 Head of the Harbor Colonial listed for $1.95 million.
The four-bedroom, 3 1⁄2-bath home, situated on 12.36 rolling acres, was once part of the former Head of the Harbor Golf Course, which listing agent Francis Huntington of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty, says was designed by Devereux Emmet, an architect credited with the design of more than 150 courses.
About one-fifth of the property remains wooded, and old-growth trees are plentiful, some exceeding 100 years in age.
“Emmet brought to the property a lot of specimen trees,” says Huntington, who is co-listing with Christine Stevens. “The property has some very unusual trees, and some that are quite sizable.”
The grounds include a tennis court, a recently renovated in-ground gunite pool, a detached three-car garage and a pool house, which includes a kitchenette and a full bathroom. The property’s deed includes an easement allowing for access to the shores of Stony Brook Harbor.
The approximately 2,000-square-foot home, which Huntington says was expanded to its current size in the 1940s, is filled with traditional touches such as square windows, wood floors and tile.
