A 1949 cape-style house on a canal in Amityville is listed for $439,000 and comes with an unexpected addition: The rear of the house, which is in contract, has a curved, two-story extension.
It features rows of windows and has a sunroom on the first floor. The second level contains a home office that leads to a rooftop patio above an attached two-car garage. It is not known whether the extension was original to the home, says Traci Gazzo, listing agent with Coach Realtors.
The owners did some remodeling after superstorm Sandy after a three-foot crawl space beneath the house flooded, bringing a foot of water into the main level. Spanish porcelain tile floors were installed and the eat-in kitchen was opened up to the dining area, Gazzo says. Damage to the 44-foot bulkhead also was repaired.
There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Other features include a great room with an exposed wood-beamed ceiling, radiant heated slate floors and a fireplace. A second fireplace is in the master bedroom.
