A Bayville home listed for $1.495 million is believed to sit on the former estate of a man once considered one of the richest in the world.
The house just went into contract.
The property is said to have been owned by Harrison Williams, who created the American Gas & Electric Co. in 1906 and later the Central States Electric Corp. The four-bedroom house, which just went into contract, is on a one-acre parcel by Long Island Sound on what was once part of sprawling Williams' Oak Point estate, says listing agent Angelo Nickas of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty.
“It’s a picturesque property with deeded beach rights in a non-flood zone," says Nickas.
Williams purchased the Bayville property following his honeymoon in the late 1920s. The Duke of Windsor frequently stayed with Williams when he was Prince of Wales.
