Buying a home in Babylon Village

"It has become a destination for restaurants," says Jamie Winkler, owner of Winkler Real Estate in West Islip and Islip.
"You can't come to Babylon and not find something a cuisine] that turns you on," says Steven Rainone of Netter Real Estate in West Islip, noting there are dozens of restaurants -- from inexpensive to upscale -- along Deer Park Avenue and Main Street.
The pedestrian-friendly downtown also comprises mom-and-pop shops and bakeries. Argyle Lake Park, Babylon Village pool and the dock are also popular.
"I'm originally from the city, and I could not have picked a better place for us to live," adds Christine Hernandez of the Westcott Group in Babylon. She moved to the village with her husband in 2001. She says she's also pleased with the education her child is receiving.
Buyers can find a wide range of housing choices -- both on and off the water -- from a variety of styles and price ranges.
"It's a perfect community. . . . You can be at the water in two seconds and have a quick commute into Manhattan]," Winkler says, adding, "It's a perfect combination."
