Buying in Flower Hill

Set amid mature trees and lush vegetation, Flower Hill is an upscale village that occupies parts of Manhasset, Roslyn and Port Washington.
"Each section has its own flavor," says Helene Weingrow of Real Living Accents on Real Estate in Port Washington.
Many homes in Port Washington built by Walter Uhl in the late 1930s and early 1940s feature wide plank floors, fireplaces and rustic-looking beams, Weingrow says. And then there are newer homes, including 5,000- and 6,000-square-foot houses built in the late 1990s and early 2000s on Walter Lane in Manhasset, says Anna Carlucci of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty.
Manicured properties throughout Flower Hill typically range in size between 0.3 acre and 1½ acres, says Janet Marron of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Manhasset. Architectural styles range from modest-size ranches and Capes to stately Tudors and Colonials.
Many buyers are attracted to the village's closeness to Manhattan as well as easy access to major roadways and highways. Plus, Flower Hill is home to St. Francis Hospital on Port Washington Boulevard in Roslyn.
Residents have access to many restaurants and shops, including those along the Miracle Mile on Northern Boulevard.
Carlucci, who has observed an uptick in the market, says, "The prices haven't increased, but activity has picked up."
