A modern home in Centre Island is on the market after remaining in the architect’s family since it was constructed in 1965. The asking price is $6 million.
The 6,600-square-foot home was designed by John Mooney for himself and his family, says Carol Cotton of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty, who is co-listing the property with Barbara Candee and Vera Wiedenhaefer. It was built of concrete with a roof of tin-covered copper and features seven bedrooms and five full baths.
Unique mushroom-shaped lights hang from the concrete ceiling on the first floor.
“Those lights are special because they do not cast shadows,” Cotton says.
