An octagonal house in Baiting Hollow, new to the market for $865,000, is situated on a 1.4-acre wooded lot overlooking Long Island Sound.

"It's a beautiful location," says Ellen Zimmerman, listing agent with JoAnn Wind of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty.

Although the 1974 wood-frame house was in bad condition when the current owners bought the property, they were intrigued by the shape and hired a local architect to expand the rear of the home facing the Sound and reconfigure the second-floor decks to create a true octagonal shape, Zimmerman says.

The interior's open floor plan features a living room area with a stone fireplace (a second brick fireplace is in the lower-level den), a sitting area with access to the deck and an eat-in kitchen. Clerestory windows set around the soaring octagonal ceiling and sliding glass doors bring in natural light.

There are four bedrooms and three full bathrooms. Other features include a patio and a one-car attached garage.
