Family friendly Old Bethpage is smaller, quieter than Plainview

Think of Old Bethpage and Plainview as sister communities. Of the two, Old Bethpage is smaller and quieter. "It's a little more woodsy and a bit secluded," says Marlene Starr of Lynda Baker Realty.
The neighboring hamlets share the Plainview-based water district, community park, library and fire department. The Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Center is in Old Bethpage on Haypath Road.
While a bevy of shops, services and eateries are easily accessible in Plainview, there is one commercial center in Old Bethpage.
Old Bethpage also houses pocket parks and is home to the 209-acre Old Bethpage Village Restoration. Scheduled to reopen for the season on April 2, it allows you to "step back in time and experience life in the mid-19th century," says resident Allison McNally, a former Realtor. "Trail View Park underwent an incredible transformation in the last year," McNally adds, noting that the once-modest foot trail is now a paved bicycle and walking path.
The hamlet's location is also convenient to the Long Island Expressway and Seaford-Oyster Bay expressway in Plainview and to Melville retailers.
Buyers can find a variety of ranch styles, Colonials and split-levels. Old Bethpage is family-oriented, says Lenny Rosenfeld of Douglas Elliman Real Estate.
The Town of Oyster Bay Housing authority offers a subsidized rental development on Round Swamp Road for people 62 and older and those with disabilities.
