Tucked away on two verdant acres in Hampton Bays sits one of Long Island’s more unusual real estate listings -- the so-called Dome Home, a three -story, 2,800-square-foot home on the market for $799,000.
Both the house and the surrounding property have equal appeal. The home has three round-shaped levels, 900 square feet each. The lower level is a large open space that holds a living room, a kitchen and decking to a pool. Two bedrooms are on the main floor, and the upper floor is additional open living space with a living room, a dining area and a second kitchen. There is an in-ground pool and pool house on the two-acre property. The home has two full bathrooms and a third full bathroom is in the poolhouse.

Sellers Rob and Barbara Kirschner built the home in 1979 and have installed several energy-saving components.
Between 13 skylights, a composting toilet system in the poolhouse bathroom (which uses peat moss and enzymes), a semi-in-ground first level, and room-by-room-controlled electric heat, they say their Long Island Power Authority bills run no more than $290 a month on average. Barbara Kirschner says the ambient temperature of the partly underground first level is a constant 65- to 72 degrees and is where they spend most of their time in the warmer months.
“This funky style home has a warm feeling and you often feel like you’re on the inside of a ship," says Roman Iwaschko of Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate, who is co-listing the property with Ellen Berkowitz of The Real Estate Store in Quogue.
