For sale: Lattingtown home where Duke and Dutchess of Windsor slept
In the spring of 1948 Lattingtown was in high-gear in preparation for the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, who would spend the summer there in a French Normandy-style estate named Severn on Horse Hollow Road.
It is now on the market for $5.995 million.
Built in 1935 and steps from The Creek club, the four-acre manse has eight bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms and a four-car garage with a guest apartment. The grounds contain lush lawns and gardens, complete with a private cobblestone driveway and motor court.
The famous couple -- he the former king of England, Edward V111, who abdicated the throne in 1936 rather than give up “the woman I love”, and she an American divorcee named Wallis Simpson -- were tagged “the greatest love story of the 20th century."
The property is listed with Margaret Trautmann of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty.
